The other St Theresa...
St Theresa of Avila (1515-1582) had some really good things to say I think. I sumbled upon her (not literally obviously) at work today, I'd direct you to the site but really it is too cheesy for me to link! Here are a few little gems:
"It is not a matter of thinking a great deal but of loving a great deal, so do whatever arouses you most to love."
"Let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you, all things pass, save God—hold Him."
"Our Lord does not care so much for the importance of our works as for the love with which they are done,"
And this is a prayer she wrote...
God has no body now on earth but ours.
No hands but ours.
No feet but ours.
Ours are the eyes through which He must look out on the world with love.
Ours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good.
Ours are the hands with which He is to bless all His people.
She's established 16 convents by the time she died in 1582, and Pope Paul VI gave her the title Doctor of the Church - only given to "theologians of outstanding merit and holiness", not bad for a woman in the 1500's me thinks.
