London today

London today feels a little odd...a bus went past me as I was walking down Kennington Park Road (or is it Lane?I can never remember) - the bus would normally have been quite full, but today it was nearly empty, with just as many police men on board as passengers. There's a strange atmosphere. Yesterday I switched on the news just before I set off for my meeting near Liverpool Street, and consequently I never did set off for my meeting at Liverpool Street, spending most of the day by the TV and telephone instead. Had to go buy sugar from the corner shop - small normal everyday things feel wrong on a day that is so out of the ordinary for London, the shop-keeper (sat next to his portable radio) obviously felt odd too "time for tea?" he chirped awkwardly, trying to break a smile.
I was frustrated by a fine bit of media spin yesterday...in his first speech of the day, Tony Blair called the attacks particularly barbaric because they'd come on a day when poverty/climate change talks (G8) were taking place, possibly causing disruption to any progress that might have been made. The media however for the rest of the day just reported that he'd described the attacks as particularly barbaric...quite out of context and changing the meaning of what he had originally said. Just an observation.
Anyway, thanks for all the texts/calls - me and flat mates are safe and well and I hope you are too.
xXx
