Proudly announcing the arrival of...

Suma (full title: Princess Satsuma), my new 10 week old rabbit - of the orange mini lop variety. She is truly beautiful it has to be said..possibly the cutest rabbit in the world, equalled only by my childhood rabbit Cloudy (RIP). Me and my dad (who proves his devotion time and time again by supporting me in these crazy escapades) embarked upon the long journey across frosty yorkshire to collect Suma from her former home on Ash Grove, Rotherham. WELL..who would have guessed that there'd be TWO Ash Groves in Rotherham ey...thats right, not us. It was the kind (and confused) old lady resident in this wrong Ash Grove who put us right _ "aahm 'ilda gloooo..." (I'm Hilda Glue she told us) - not a breeder of rabbits. So..several phone conversations later (how do people manage with no mobile phone?...I do not understand), the real rabbit breeder, and inhabitant of the right Ash Grove in Rotherham, drove out to rescue us and escort us to her illusive house. I would have quite liked to buy both of her sheds, crammed with little twitching furballs, and some big huge chunks of fur ball - but instead I came away with my little Suma - all strawberry blonde and lovely! After making it out of the correct Ash Grove, it became clear that Suma was not happy in the box...and was in fact hanging out of it with a wild look in her eye. So I got her out...and she climbed up and nestled firmly under my chin, in a happy little ball, there to stay for the rest of the journey. So, after a rather long drive back (we got ourselves trapped in the endless queue of cars making their way to the Meadow Hall sales), Suma and I rest here tonight before travelling back down to London tomorrow.
I think that this whole rabbit ownership business is giving me a little foretaste of motherhood, quite strange. As I type, my black lambswool jumper is covered in strawberry blonde hair and sawdust...and I smell distinctly 'rabbity' (although miraculously she hasnt peed on me yet!) - I feel like one of those mothers covered in puke, who I would look at and exlaim internally "HOW can that not bother you?!". I keep checking on her box every few minutes to check she's ok...and when she started to hiccup on my knee I nearly cried cos I thought she was ill. The house has been made safe for Suma to scamper around freely, but my heart still skips a beat when she nears the TV wires. Oh the worry of it all...I'm really not sure that I could handle being a parent - it would be like this only much much worse...!
So...I haven't blogged for quite some time. Things have happened, including a new job which I start in January...strange that a new pet is a thing that makes me want to blog again!! What can I say, an inspirational rabbit!
Lots of love everybody, and HAPPY NEW YEAR
xXx
