Greenbelt

The last of my summer work trips is fast approaching...Greenbelt, this weekend. If you're going, come and say hello - I'll be on the World Vision/bug magazine stand for a lot of the time. Also, look out for the two talks (Mind the Gap 1 and Mind the Gap 2!) by Rudo Kwaramba, my head of department - she's a brilliant, inspirational and interesting public speaker so be there if you can.

Quick note for Keele-ers/ex Keel-ers, there's a programme coming up on Radio 4 on University's...Keele features quite prominently I've been led to believe, so have a listen if you fancy getting a bit nostalgic!

So...six days, six flights and three hotles later, I'm back from Mozambique. It was a good but challenging trip...we were given the full guest treatment, which meant being put up in hotels that were really quite plush. It's nice to be so welcomed and looked after, but it felt a bit wierd to me when we went from our hotel right out to some of the poorest areas. Met lots of wonderful people, including some of the Mozambique children's parliament, very inspiring and eloquent. Amy (the sixteen year old magazine comp winner and our guest of honour) was fantastic (comes with the name I think!), and it was great to at last see with my own eyes some of the projects I write about every day. Not sure what else to say really, will probably leave it there! Really should try and sort out my flikr account so I can post pics too..I'll work on it.

South African mini break

Here I am in Johannesburg, on my way to Mozambique...in the Business precise (we somehow got bumped up a class) - with free food/drink/internet/comfy chairs, a very nice way to spend a long stop over! It would have been longer had our flight from London not been delayed for 2 hours. I did just spil hot (free) hot chocolate all over my jeans...not good, but it dried quickly in the heat! Shame we can't wander out of the airport and see a little of South Africa seeing as we're here...but alas, visas (or lack of) do not permit. It look very nice from what I can see...the people are all very friendly. There's an Accessorize and a Body Shop at the airport...feels a bit like London!
Anyway, am going to go and snooze and read now in one of the throne like chairs. Just thought I'd say hi...have a good week

conflict in the Middle East

You've all heard about it, and everyone's probably got a different opinion on it. But if you want to do a quick campaigning action to show that you think the fighting/killing should stop, visit http://www.worldvision.org.uk/getinvolved/campaigning/
